MBE ENTERPRISE

Since 1999

Alex Meruelo, a community-minded entrepreneur based in Southern California, entered the growing utility construction industry through the 1999 acquisition of Riverside, California-based Herman Weissker, Inc. (est. 1959). The following year, Meruelo doubled his portfolio with Doty Bros. Construction Company (est. 1935) in Norwalk, California, going on to acquire complementary companies throughout the 2000s, including Tidwell Excavating (est. 1959) based in Ventura, Neal Electric (est. 1986) in San Diego and Select Electric (est. 1974) in San Diego. Coming full circle, company leadership launched HW Power in 2017 to focus on electrical overhead line construction.

Since 1999, the MEI family of companies was created, each with its own distinct brand and specialties, offering an array of diversified construction services while leading the way as a coalition of Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs).
